The lake hiding at the bottom of a 17th century Church

Protected by the surrounding mountains of Corinthia and Achaia, The Hidden Lake Doxa is one of the most beautiful in the Peloponnese, Greece.

It is located at Feneos of Korinthia at an altitude of 1,000 meters and stands out for its wonderful landscapes. The lake is artificial and was created in 1998, however, it is fully integrated into the landscape.

At its center is the chapel of Agios Fanourios and it has easy access to nearby excursions. Previously in here, there was the Monastery of St. George, known as “Palaio Monastiro”, which was transported due to the floods and is now nestled on a forested slope.

According to legend, the lake that existed there in ancient times was dried up by Hercules. In the lake there are racing sailing models. Some admirers dive into their icy waters to find the old icon of Saint George, which is immersed in a depth of eight meters.

Around the lake  doxa you can discover the beauty of the Peloponnesian nature by hiking and cycling or riding a horse carriage. It is worth visiting the ruins of the Zarakas Monastery, just outside the village of Stymphalia and the nearby villages of Goura, Feneos, Kalyvia (Ancient Feneos), Steno and Panorama.
