Another year draws to a close ushering in a new one. Whatever 2017 was or was not, now it is history. It is time to move on to 2018 with new hopes, dreams, surprises and a new set of resolutions. It is bound to be a great year, particularly for sports lovers, with a series of exciting events lined up. Here are some things to look forward to in 2018.
WINTER OLYMPICS, FEBRUARY
A great start to the year with the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea on February 9th. Despite the ban on Russia and the tensions with North Kor.ea, there is much to look forward to. The fairytale advance of the Nigerian Women’s bobsled team into the Games, creating history as the first African team to do so, is one.
COMMONWEALTH GAMES, MAY
The 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held in Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15. India has a lot to look forward to this time and will hope to improve the 5th position attained in the 2014 Games
ROYAL WEDDING, MAY
Look forward to the British Royal wedding between Prince Harry and actress Megan Merkel. The wedding comes 7 years after the celebrated wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
FIFA WORLD CUP, JUNE
Probably the biggest sporting event of the year, the 2018 FIFA World Cup will start from June 14 in Russia. Despite missing some big teams like Italy, Holland, and Chile, the event promises to be exciting as always.
SAUDI ARABIA TO LIFT BAN ON WOMEN DRIVING, JUNE
June will witness a historic moment in Saudi Arabia, as the country is set to lift the ban on women driving. It is indeed a huge step for the ultra-conservative society and could lead to more social reforms.
TOURISTS AROUND THE MOON
Space X is set to send two tourists around the moon in 2018, which would make them the first humans to go that far into space after 1978.
