The 2017 AMA ‘S had its moments – from Christina Aguilera’s touching tribute to Whitney Houston to Pink’s jaw-dropping acrobatic performance. But there was one particular performance that earned the highest cheer from the crowd and that the world took notice of – it was the high energy performance of their new single DNA by BTS.

BTS aka Bangtan Sunyeondan or Beyond the Scene is a seven-member K-pop group that debuted in 2013. The group has a very prominent social media presence with 10 million followers on twitter and an extremely loyal fandom called Army, owing to which they beat competition from the likes of Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez to win Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards earlier this year.

The group comprises of rappers RM, Suga, and J –Hope and vocalists Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The group has released four studio albums and a number of EPs in Korean and Japanese. Their sophomore Korean album ‘Wings’ became the best selling album in Korea and charted on the Billboard 200 at 26. Their latest EP is ‘Love Yourself: Her’, the lead single of which DNA, the band performed at the AMAs. BTS writes and produces most of their songs and deviates from the typical boy band and k-pop formulas, by commenting on social issues. In fact, they not only criticize the attitudes and stereotypes imposed by the society but also deal with the K-pop idol culture, youth, depression, bullying, their fans and themselves.

Since it is not possible for me to rate their songs in a short list, here are my top 5 BTS music videos.Their music videos are often a visual treat, with novel concepts and impeccable dance moves.

A very upbeat track that features fast-paced choreography, as the boys recount the struggles of being an idol.

The lead single from their Young Forever album is a high energy track, that features one of their best dance breaks.

A song about friendship and loss. The poignant vocals complement the beautifully shot mv.

One of their biggest hits to date.  The song from the album ‘Wings’ is heavy with symbolism and derives its inspiration from Herman Hesse’s novel Demian. The video became fastest k – pop video to attain 10 million views.

This track brought them a lot of mainstream success. While the lyrics are about love and heartbreak, the video – rated as one of their best – explores the inner turmoils of young people and has been the staple of many fan theories.
